Skyler Simpson of Elkhorn receives University of Nebraska-Lincoln degree

Skyler Hunter Simpson of Elkhorn was among nearly 3,200 graduates who received degrees from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln during commencement exercises May 4 and 5.

Simpson earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts with high distinction from the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts.

Academy Award-winning filmmaker Alexander Payne delivered the address at the undergraduate commencement and received an honorary Doctor of Fine Arts from the university. John W. Maag, professor of special education and communication disorders at Nebraska, spoke at the graduate and professional degrees ceremony.

The College of Law conducted a separate commencement ceremony May 5 at the Lied Center. Nebraska Supreme Court Justice Jeffrey Funke addressed the law graduates. Earl and Patricia Scudder, alumni and longtime supporters of the university, received a Builder Award during the ceremony.
